Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)
Helping individuals achieve a happier, more fulfilling life
At Mend Psychiatry in Ohio, we understand that relationships are an essential part of mental well-being. Our team of psychiatric doctors and mental health counselors is dedicated to helping you achieve a happier, more fulfilling life through Interpersonal Therapy (IPT). IPT is an evidence-based psychotherapy designed to address depression and other psychiatric disorders, ultimately promoting emotional healing and personal growth.
What is Interpersonal Therapy?
Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) is a short-term, structured psychotherapy approach that focuses on the relationship between one's mental health and interpersonal issues. It was initially developed for the treatment of depression but has since been adapted to address other mental health concerns, such as anxiety and eating disorders. Our psychiatric doctors and mental health counselors are well-versed in IPT techniques, ensuring you receive the highest level of care and support throughout your therapy journey.
How it Works
In IPT, the psychiatric doctor or mental health counselor collaborates with you to identify and address the specific interpersonal issues contributing to your emotional distress. The therapeutic process generally follows four stages:
Assessment: Your psychotherapy sessions will begin with a thorough evaluation of your current emotional state and interpersonal relationships.
Identifying Issues: Together with your psychiatric doctor or mental health counselor, you'll pinpoint the interpersonal issues that are affecting your well-being and emotions.
Addressing Problems: Your mental health counselor will guide you through strategies and techniques to address these interpersonal problems and improve communication.
Termination: Once you've made significant progress, your psychotherapy sessions will conclude with a focus on maintaining your newfound skills and emotional health.
